Your About Us page is one of the most important pages on your website and it’s most likely one of the most frequently visited.  Your About Us page should be uniquely about you, your story and an opportunity to establish a connection with visitors. You can maximise it’s value by making it interesting, useful, informative and adding pictures of you and your team. When visitors visit your page they are considering purchasing your products or services. They are also trying to determine if they can trust your business. Here are 5 steps on how to create an About Us page:

1. Your Company’s Mission Statement

What are you here to do? What is your goal and purpose? Why should your website visitors care about your company? You need to state your mission, goal and purpose of your company. Write from a storytelling view rather than using bullet points. When you write from the storytelling perspective it makes reading more enjoyable and interesting. Don’t only give boring impersonal facts, showcase the exciting personality of your business and the people behind it.

2. Explain Your Company Story

How did your company start? Why did you choose the company name? Where is your company based?  Your company might still be new and might not have growth yet but talk about where you came from. Give visitors to your page your backstory on your company venture. If your company doesn’t yet have testimonials yet talk about your goals and describe what you’re doing to achieve them. Share your story, your history and what the name means to you. You can also include the city or state you are in as this helps visitors relate more to you and it builds trust. Once you have been in business for a while and have collected data update your page.

3.Outline What Your Company Has To Offer

What does your company offer? What challenges have you faced while developing your products or services? How did you handle these challenges? Every good business was founded on an idea. Your idea might be something new to the current marketplace or it might be similar to what’s already out. You should explain benefits and features of your products or services.

4. Establish  Your Audience

Who is your audience? Why should they care about you? Who are you here to serve? As you begin to write your About Us page, imagine who is most likely to be reading it. The language you use must speak to your audience and must relate to them and address their specific needs. It’s impossible to engage with every visitor and that’s why it’s crucial that you identify exactly who your audience is and mention your core customer.

5. Describe Your Company Values

What are your company values? What’s your company culture like? What makes you different? All customers want to be treated like human beings and want to relate to you. Write about your company values and principles and explain why the product or service you offer is important to you. You can also describe who you are as a person, who your team is and what your personal values are.  This is a powerful way to win over the hearts of potential customers and help them to relate to you and your company.
